Introducing gPress

Welcome to the first public post from gPress! I didn't expect to return to blogging again, but circumstances have made it compelling, and if I'm going to blog, I want to do it with a platform that suits me.

I tried WordPress before. WordPress is designed to be used by people who have no web experience, which is laudable. However, it is a large and complicated program; it is only customizable because they've added even larger and more complicated tools to manage the customizations. My standard for websites, "minimalistic and easy to customize by virtue of simplicity", is the opposite of WordPress' implementation.

Given that I have specific expectations about what a page should be like, it seemed reasonable to create my own blogging system. I suspect turning the prompt to 'start a blog' into a programming exercise reveals something about my personality. At the time of this writing (4/8/22), the finished product uses a single-digit number of files to operate; they're probably 12kb or less, in total. I expect to have individual posts that weigh more than the rest of the site. Site performance seems to be excellent. On the technical side, I seem to have accomplished what I set out to do.

But the quality of a blog depends more on the content than the architecture. We'll see how it develops, but at present I have some ideas for topics I may post about:

Logic: I naturally process statements in a logical fashion (some might say too much so), and I've enjoyed reading good examples of logical fallacies. It may not be dissertation-level, but I expect room for material here.
Theology: When it comes to spiritual matters, it can't be said that I'm experienced, proficient or mature. If my perspective isn't instructive, though, it may give some room for discussion, and ventilation of my understanding.
Computing: I grew up using classic Macintoshes, and have since acquired an amount of experience with a variety of systems. This has been conducive to extended monologues in the past, and it seems expedient to continue it here.
Design: Probably also as a result of growing up in the classic Mac community, I've acquired ideals in software and interface design. It's likely that I'll talk about these occasionally.
Fan interests: I've written analyses of things like Adventures in Odyssey before, and this seems to be a good place to offload those when I need to.
