Exponents are a special way of representing multiplication. The main number is called the base, and the small number to the upper-right is the exponent. To carry out an exponential operation, you multiply the base by itself, as many times as the number in the exponent.

So, 2⁵ = 2 • 2 • 2 • 2 • 2 = 32.

In this exercise, bases go up to 9 and the exponents go up to 3.
